15 Best Songs from Hot Summer Nights
Hot Summer Nights (2017) is a vibrant, nostalgic teen crime flick starring Timothée Chalamet, Maika Monroe, Alex Roe, and Maia Mitchell. After his father’s death in the early 90s, Daniel (Chalamet) is sent to spend the summer with his aunt on Cape Cod, which teems with either tourists or locals. Being neither, Daniel feels even more like an awkward outsider than he normally does.
Soon after arriving, Daniel meets Hunter Strawberry (Roe) while he mans a cash register at the convenience store. Hunter asks Daniel to hide his marijuana from the police officers who are on his tail, and thus, the two become business partners. Meanwhile, Daniel falls in love with Hunter’s sister McKayla (Monroe) without knowing she’s his sister. She’s the most sought-after girl in town, and Hunter is intensely protective of her, even though she’s not happy with his business dealings.
Like the characters’ relationships, the film is a little bit of a mess, but its stunning visuals, quirky costumes, and matching soundtrack are enough to keep viewers hooked. Chalamet and Monroe share an undeniable chemistry, mirrored by the tumultuous natural environment of their surroundings. Here are fifteen of the best songs featured in Hot Summer Nights.
