Beth as Top Girl in Dare Me

Dare Me recently premiered on Netflix USA after airing on USA Network in 2019. Despite the show’s positive critical and audience reception, it was canceled when USA Network transitioned away from scripted content.

The series explores the volatility of female friendships, jealousy, and power dynamics against a glittering, dark aesthetic. Cheerleading is the sport of choice for the main characters, Beth and Addy (Marlo Kelly and Herizen Guardiola), who have been best friends for years. Beth is Top Girl and has been coaching the team since their old coach left, but when the team gets a new coach (Willa Fitzgerald), Beth feels isolated.

Addy decides she wants more for herself and gets tangled up in Coach’s personal life while Beth spirals. A murder mystery unfurls while viewers get a glimpse into the uglier parts of this glamorized sport. The series is based on the eponymous novel by Megan Abbott, bringing to life a cast of complex female characters in an exciting, engaging story.

The series makes excellent use of its soundtrack, often indulging in gorgeous, cinematic shots of the girls doing what they do best — cheerleading, living, daring — with memorable, tone-setting tunes immersing viewers in the characters’ worlds. Here are the fourteen best songs from the soundtrack of Dare Me.
